If you are new to CyanogenMod, it is one of the most popular Custom Android Developer team which brings customized Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) ROM with enhance capabilities for your Android smartphone. Recently CyanogenMod Team has made an announcement that they have already started working on CyanogenMod 9 which will ultimately bring Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 on all supported devices within 2 months time period.
Just now CyanogenMod has released an Alpha version of CyanogenMod 9 in order to get an early preview on your devices. This version will work on both Nexus S and Galaxy S handsets. However, according to some reports, you will also all your SD card data during it’s installation. Therefore, we suggest you to rather wait for a more stable version.

Whats Needed
Download both CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 11 and Google Apps Add-on from here.
Procedure
Note: Before we go ahead, if you are running an earlier version of CyanogenMod then jump over to Step 2 otherwise start from Step 1.
1- Either you are using Nexus S or Galaxy S, make sure both of them are rooted. If not then just find an easy method by searching on Google.
2- You need to install ROM Manager on your device and then confirm if ClockworkMod Recovery has been updated to the latest version.
3- Take a backup of your data by using the ROM Manager installed on your device and then copy the backup saved in
SD card under clockworkmod directory to computer. This backup will be required if you have decided to restore your device to OLD ROM.
4- Jump over to ROM Manager menu again and install CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 11 ICS ROM through “Install ROM from SD Card” option.
5- Choose “Wipe Data and Cache”
6- Choose “Wipe Dalvik Cache”.
7- Finally you need to repeat step 2 to step 6 in order to install Google Apps Add-on
Once installation is finish, device will be automatically rebooted and you it will reach to Ice Cream Sandwich set up screen.
