Siri for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch Running iOS 5 is Now Legally Available in Cydia Called Spire [Jailbreak Tweak]

If you have been following us on regular basis, we reported you a few months ago why Siri port on older devices running iOS 5 firmware can’t be made public even thought it was successfully tested on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices. If you have missed it then basically it was not possible due to some piracy issues along with some technical difficulties.

Now famous Hackers Chpwn and  Ryan Petrich who are basically behind this port has managed to resolve the piracy issue and released a new jailbreak app called Spire. Installation this jailbreak app will bring iPhone 4S Siri on officially unsupported, jailbroken devices such as iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch etc.

From Chpwn Blog

Spire is my (along with Ryan Petrich) new tool for installing Siri on previously unsupported, but jailbroken, devices. Spire is a small download, but while installing it will download Siri itself (directly from Apple).

However, Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address. By using this (ancient) SiriProxy fork, you can setup a proxy using your own iPhone 4S to insert the needed information reasonably easily.

Although hackers have been able to resolve the piracy issue but the solution is still technically difficult to implement. The reason behind this technical difficult is Siri requires a special authentication code while connecting to Apple’s servers. At the moment this can only be done by getting the authentication key from a valid iPhone 4S. Not only that, but the key must be regenerated every 24 hours. So in order to do that, users have to set up a proxy server which need to be connected with iPhone 4S on regularly basis thus refreshing the key.

Hackers have also mentioned that once iPhone 4S is jailbroken then this above mentioned mentioned will surely be more simplified but regular access to iPhone 4S will still be required for the authentication key.
