Famous iPhone hacker and member of Chronic Dev Team Pod2g has shared some interesting news about the release of Untethered jailbreak solution for A5 devices. Hacker mentioned that a new jailbreaking tool from Chronic Dev Team to provide untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 device will be called as Absinthe. Whereas, iPhone Dev Team will release a CLI (command line) utility which will do the repair work something goes wrong during the installation. Once jailbreak is completly stable, the iPhone Dev team will package it into GUI based redsn0w tool. Moreover, The “Dream Team” have used backup / restore functions of iTunes to install jailbreak software which may lead to some error which are not covered.
From Pod2g:
This is a little scary I know, but the chance you break something is really small, since we made lots of tests to verify the process on different devices. But it is the first time we use the backup / restore functions of iTunes to install software, and there are maybe things we are not aware of.
The new jailbreaking tool Absinthe will be supported on following devices :
- iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
- iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1
