TetherMe 2.2 Updated to Support iOS 5 Internet Tethering Personal Hotspot over Wifi or Bluetooth for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

TetherMe provides internet tethering over WiFi or Bluetooth thereby allowing you to share your 3G, EDGE or GPRS data connection with other iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch users. This functionality has been provided in iOS 4.3 on wards however these services are only restricted in countries with official carriers thereby depriving a huge number of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users so the Jailbreak community offers various tweaks to enable internet personnel hotspot tethering using TetherMe. Recently we had reported that MyWi 5.0 has been updated to add support for iOS 5 and now its the TetherMe which has been updated to version 2.2 with iOS 5 support.

Some of the salient features of TetherMe are,

 Dynamically enables native tethering or personal hotspot for iOS3.X, iOS4.X+, and iOS5.X devices. This should work on any carrier without the need for customized bundles or preferences.

TetherMe has been tested to work on all iOS versions from 3.0 to 5.0 and works by telling the iPhone to allow tethering on any APN that is used for iPhone data. As a result, you should not be charged extra from your phone company as all tethering data appears to come from the phone itself.

TetherMe also bypasses signature checking and allows you to edit your carrier bundle manually if you so desire. This is required to enable MMS functionality on T-Mobile. TetherMe does NOT enable the loading of APN configurations from .mobileconfig profiles at this time.

This method should work on every carrier without any additional user interaction; however, if you decide to tether without your carrier’s knowledge and they find out, we will not assume responsibility for any additional charges or fees incurred.

There are no icons added after the installation rather you can find it under Settings -> General -> Network tab. TetherMe 2.2 is a paid Cydia Application for 4.99 US$ but you can install it using the procedure here for trial purposes. However if you like the application please buy it from Cydia.
