During WWDC 2016 Apple release the upcoming iteration of iOS for iPhone, iPad & iPod devices with tons are improvements and new features same as macOS Sierra. It was during the first day of Apple Develops Conference that Tim Cook came tall with announcement of iOS 10 as it was being speculated for past few months that Apple might come out it a complete revamp of its iOS or further features, improvements in terms of performance and stability will be induced.
We will take you with some of the key features in iOS 10,
Redesigned LockScreen
iOS 10 introduces completely redesigned LockScreen with clear notifications segregated by respective applications in the form of cards with clear background. In addition it now supports widgets for appointments, maps, siri etc when swiping to the left on LockScreen.
Widgets
iPhone Todays view in notification centre has been replaced with Siri proactive page which is not only available on home screen but also on the lock screen when swiping to the left. Moreover for the iPad still the notification centre is there also the access to widgets on lock screen is present.
3D Touch Powered Widgets
iOS 10 introduces 3D Touch Powered Widgets on some of the applications like weather, stocks, calendar etc which displays sneak preview into the current information if you are only interested in viewing otherwise can select other options to further enter application.
Interactive Notifications
Notification view now allows users to enter complete response including multimedia support in the form of interactive cards. Its more of an extension to Quick Reply which was limited to text only has been improved to add multimedia functionality.
Messages App
Messages application has seen tremendous improvements in the form of stickers, message bubble animations, full-screen effects, hand written notes as well as invisible messages. Multimedia content including gifs, music, videos can be easily shared. Also the intelligent suggestions to convert text to emojis is a value addition. App Drawer & Tapback functionalities are also including making it more fun to use the messages app.
Maps, Photos, Siri, Homekit Improvements
Apple is working on fixing Maps application to compete with popular Google Maps application, suggestions based on current location along-with search for places of interest and turn by turn navigation are improved. Photos application adds memories section into the app same like On this Day feature of Facebook where you can look back into your memories with whom you spent your time with then based on the collection of these memories you can compile them into a Movie.
Siri is updated to support homekit improvements with third party application integrations which opens the horizon for functionality that was limited to Apple applications to become available on famous third party applications as well.
In addition Apply Pay has been improved to support websites via safari. Pick to wake feature is definitely a value addition which allows the iOS device to sense that it has been lifted so that it can wakeup from standby automatically. Then option to remove Stock apps is also a functionality which most of us wanted.
iOS Developers Beta is available for download via developers.apple.com whereas Public Beta is expected in July with final release fall this year
