If you are Android Phone owner then you must be already aware that Google has recently started video and voice chat service on their Google Talk App for Android. The only limitation it came out with that it was only supported on devices running Android 2.3.4. Finally after alot of efforts a work around has been identified through which you can install Google Talk on phones which aren’t on Android 2.3.4. Thanks to XDA-Developers community who managed to get it work on most phones running Android 2.3.
THE PROCEDURE I AM GOING TO WRITE NOW IS ALL AT YOUR OWN RISK. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF IT GETS FAILED OR CAUSED ANY DATA LOSS!!!!!
1- Android Phone running 2.3 Gingerbread. In order to confirm if your phone is running OS 2.3 then go to Settings > About, scroll down and you’ll see Android version. If it is 2.3 or 2.3.x, then it means you can install Gtalk 1.3.
2- You phone must be rooted. If you have Samsung Galaxy SII then follow our post on how to to Root Samsung
3- It is also recommended that you should make a backup using ROM Manager and/or Titanium Backup. Although the guide is safe but anything can go wrong so be sure you have a backup!
You you have ensure the prerequisites then just follow the below mentioned guide in order to make it work on your Android Phone.
1- Download a .zip file of Google Talk from here and copy it to the root of your Android phone’s SD card.
2- Download and install ROM Manager from here.
3- Once you finish the downloading of ROM Manager, just launch it and go to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and select your device. This will install a custom recovery on your phone which will be required later on. Your phone will be automatically rebooted right after the installation of custom recovery.
4- After the automatic rebooting, once again launch ROM Manager and go to Reboot Into Recovery.
5- Your phone will again reboot but this time it will reboot into ClockworkMod recovery mode. scroll down to wipe cache partition using your phone’s volume up/down keys and the home button and press yes to wipe cache.
Note:- If you can’t boot into ClockworkMod recovery mode from ROM Manager, it can also be done automatically by shutting down your phone and then restarting it by holding Volume Up+Home+Power.
6- Similarly go to advanced > wipe dalvik cache > yes – wipe dalvik cache. Go back to main menu using power/lock button.
7- This will be important step so you must do it carefully. Just go back to your SD Card where you have copied Gtalk zip file. Scroll down to install zip from sd card > choose zip from sd card > Gtalk_video_voice_XsMagical.zip. Once you have done that, it will Flash the hacked Gtalk app to your phone. After flashing, reboot system now.
8- Launch the Google Talk app from your phone, Go to your picture and enable video and voice chats to start video chatting with friends.
