How to Root Samsung Stratosphere 4G On Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread

Samsung has recently launched Stratosphere 4G smartphone on Verizon Wireless and developers of popular Rootzwiki  forums have been able to get the root access on Android 2.3.5. Follow the below mentioned step by step guide on how to Root Samsung Stratosphere 4G on Android 2.3.5.

IMPORTANT:-

THE PROCEDURE I AM GOING TO WRITE NOW IS ALL AT YOUR OWN RISK. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF IT GETS FAILED!!!!!

Whats Needed

1-   Download Android Debug Bridge (ADB) toolkit for here and set up it up so it can be used to debug your Stratosphere.

Procedure

1-   Download Heimdall 1.3.1.Zip file from here and then extract zip contents to a folder. If you are running on Windows PC then make sure you have installed C++ redistributables otherwise it won’t work.

2-   Put your Stratosphere 4G on “Download Mode” by switching off your device and then turn it on by holing Volume Down button.

3-   Connect your phone with computer through USB and make sure you don’t remove the cable.

4-   Install drivers by navigating to the folder extracted in step 1 and Run zagig.exe app in the Drivers folder. Click on ‘Install Driver’ then replug your phone and restart your PC if required.

5-   Download following Zip files and preferably extract them in the same folder you extracted Heimdall to in Step 1.

a.   Stratosphere Root.zip from here.

b.   Stock Kernel.zip from here.

6-   Launch a terminal window if you are on Linux or Command Prompt if you are on Windows, navigate to folder extracted in Step 1 and type the following command:

heimdall detect

7-   If step 6 command runs successfully then you will be prompted “Device detected”. Now proceed further by typing this command.

heimdall flash –kernel root-zImage

8-    You will notice that it will start flashing kernel. Once its done, your phone will be rebooted with new yellow ‘!’ triangle appear under the SAMSUNG logo on the boot screen.

9-   Enable “USB Debugging” by going to Settings > Applications > Development.

10- Once again ensure that your phone is connected to the computer

List of devices attached

11- Now you need to remount the file system:

F:\Downloads\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32>adb remount 
remount succeeded

12- Push the below mentioned files to the phone:

F:\Downloads\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32>adb push su /system/bin 
F:\Downloads\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32>adb push busybox /system/bin 
F:\Downloads\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32>adb push Superuser.apk /system/app

13- Change permissions of su and busybox:

F:\Downloads\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32>adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
F:\Downloads\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32>adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox

14- Your device will be rooted and now phone is rooted.
