Downgrade iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 Custom Firmware Using iFaith

Previously we reviewed TinyUmbrella which gives you the option to save the SHSH blobs before upgrading to new iOS. These SHSH blobs will then be used to downgrade from latest iOS version to old iOS firmware. However, after the release of iOS 5.0, Apple put some checks (APTickets) which makes downgrading to iOS 5 impossible using SHSH blobs saved by TinyUmbrella. In order to resolve this problem, developer behind iFaith released a new version 1.4 which supports the saving of both APTicket + SHSH blobs and then same can be used to downgrade from iOS 5.1 or iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5 custom firmware. You can follow the below mentioned step by step guide in order to downgrade from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 firmware using latest iFaith 1.4.

Procedure

1-   Download and Run iFaith 1.4 for Windows from here.

2-   Choose “Build *signed* IPSW w/Blobs” from iFaith main menu as show in above picture.

3-   Browse and select the saved SHSH blobs file for your current device firmware. Now you need create a custom firmware using iFaith by browsing for the stock firmware version. Select ‘Build IPSW’ option and iFaith will now automatically create a custom firmware with embedded SHSH blobs for the firmware you are downgrading to.

4-   Choose to Proceed and then Start to enter DFU Mode with help of iFaith’s built-in DFU Pwner (iREB).

5-    Follow on screen instructions on how to place your device into DFU mode.

  • Hold Power + Home buttons for 10 seconds
  • Now release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10-30 more seconds
  • Your iDevice should now be in DFU mode
6-   Exit iFaith and open iTunes  and click your iDevice on left panel. Hold the Shift button and press “Restore” button on iTunes and browse the patched 5.0 IPSW file created in step-3

Your SHSH blobs are saved which can be used to downgrade your firmware in future. If you are planning to downgrade you might like to see  TinyUmbrellaSnowBreezePwnageToolRedsn0w or JailbreakMe.
