Apple has incorporated Maps application in iPhone since it launch in 2007 however various element kept on upgrading whereas no major design revamp took place as of yet till launch of iPhone 4S but now Apple is thinking of going 3D by acquiring C3 Technologies. iOS Maps application provides users with current location, directions and digital compass based navigation however all in 2D. Apple had started development for Maps to take it to next generation in 2009 with the acquisition of Poly 9 which was merged into own Maps development team known as Placebox. Now C3 Technologies is the third company to join the group in order to deliver 3-Dimensional Maps for iOS devices. C3 Technologies CEO Mattias Astrom along with his team is now working with iOS devision now called “Sputnik” to provide 3D Mapping in to iOS Maps application.

It is expected that by next version of iOS 6 Apple will fully geared to provide 3D Maps along with Traffic data for true navigation right within the Maps application without the need of third party data. Also the chances are that like Siri being an exclusive feature of iOS 5 in the same manner 3D Voice Navigation can be the exclusive feature of iPhone 5 and iOS 6.
